My favourite study! Completed in inscribe pastels on black paper.

New Project!

The inspiration for this project came from crystal spheres and how they distort light to capture an inverted image on the world.

Tree Project Studies

These studies have been inspired by Caspar David Friedrich and Vincent Van Gogh

Collage Project Ideas

My ideas for my tree project included atmospheric, dark, foreboding forests (the tree canopy blocks out the light making forests seem more creepy), the Tudors and the symbolic Tudor rose and the ravens found at the Tower of London (I visited it in the past and took a few photos of the ravens). I loved the symbolic meanings hidden in all these objects (the tree, rose and raven) and eventually settled on dead trees with crows landing on them as the focus of my project.

Tree Project

I took some photos of some pretty awesome looking dead trees for my first A level project, what inspired me was the beautiful shapes or their gnarled and twisted branches against a dramatic sky. I loved how much more interesting the trees looked once they had died/ lost all their leaves.

Illustration Project Continued....

I completed a number of studies inspired by the wonderful Arthur Rackham in his pen and ink with watercolour style. I love how these came out, although they did take a really long time to complete!I took all these photos on Bredon Hill when it had snowed, it created the perfect creepy atmosphere.

This one took me forever! I drew each ivy leaf individually, why? I have no idea. But it looks pretty! :)

Arthur Rackham inspired Illustration Fairytale Project...

I was inspired by the art of Victorian children's books such as the dark fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. The most famous illustrator of the Golden Age of Illustration was Arthur Rackham, whose work I love! His illustrations are beautiful, whimsical and dark all rolled into one. Here is a visual study I carried out of his illustration 'Little Red Riding Hood'

For this painting I used pen and ink and then painted watercolour on top, in the same style as Rackham.
